BEAN SHANGHAI PRIVACY POLICY

BEAN has established this privacy policy (the “Policy”) to explain to you how your information is protected, collected and used.  This Policy may be updated by BEAN from time to time and BEAN will provide notice of materially significant changes to this Policy by posting notice on the BEAN website, www.beanonline.org (the “Website”).

We believe that your privacy and the privacy of all our users is important and critical to our success.  You must have an account registered on the Website (a “BEAN Account”) in order to use the Website and attend any and all BEAN sponsored events, including but not limited to:  volunteer events, charitable events, fundraising events, social events, promotional events, sporting activities, networking events, any events concerning membership of BEAN, or other such BEAN sponsored activities (collectively, a “BEAN Event,” or “BEAN Events”).  BEAN asks for some personal information when you create a BEAN Account, including your email address and a password, which is used to protect your BEAN Account from unauthorized access.  A BEAN Account allows you to access many of our services and to sign up for BEAN Events requiring registration.  As a BEAN member, you can create a profile that includes personal information, such as your gender, age, occupation, hobbies, and interests, plus other content, such as photos.  This information may be accessed and viewed by other BEAN members.  When you interact with other members or send messages through BEAN, we may chose to maintain information associated with those messages, including email addresses and content.  This policy applies to all personal information you supply to BEAN on the Website, including in your registration form, when providing contact information to receive information from BEAN, or for an event registration fee or donation.  Contributions that you provide for posting on the Website, by e-mail, or otherwise, however, are nonconfidential and nonproprietary to you.

  1. Protecting your privacy
  • BEAN does not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • BEAN does not engage in cross-marketing or link-referral programs with other sites.
  • BEAN does not employ tracking devices for marketing purposes (“cookies,” web beacons, single-pixel gifs,” etc.).
  • BEAN does not send you unsolicited communications for marketing purposes and provides the option for you to opt out of any communications that are not “transactional” in nature, such as password change notifications.
  • BEAN Account information is password-protected, but it is your responsibility to keep your password safe.
  • BEAN does not knowingly collect any information from persons under the age of 18. If BEAN learns that a posting or contribution is made by a person under the age of 18, BEAN will remove that post and disable the user’s account.
  • BEAN, or others who post on the Website, may provide links to third party websites, which may have different privacy practices. We are not responsible for, nor have any control over, the privacy policies of those third party websites, and encourage all users to read the privacy policies of each and every website visited.
  1. Data we collect and store
  • BEAN collects your email address, for purposes such as sending self-publishing and confirmation emails, authenticating user accounts, providing subscription email services, registering for forums, etc.  BEAN asks for other personal information such as name, address, and personal information such as occupation, education, etc.  BEAN also allows you to upload and display photos of yourself.  This information is solely collected to facilitate your voluntary participation in the BEAN community online and may be edited by you at any time. As a BEAN member you may update your BEAN Account information through the Website.
  • BEAN does not store credit card information.
  • BEAN collects and stores photos of its members attending BEAN Events.  If you attend a BEAN Event, a photo of you is taken, subsequently uploaded to the Website by another BEAN Member or a BEAN officer, and your BEAN Account is “tagged,” where such photo is associated and displayed with your BEAN Account, you may chose to “untag” or disassociate the photo with your BEAN account.  BEAN may continue to maintain and display the photo on the Website; however, BEAN will remove any photos if BEAN agrees that the photo is offensive or harmful in any way.
  • BEAN may collect personal information if you provide it in feedback or comments, post it on the Website or if you contact us directly. Please do not post any personal information on the Website that you expect to keep private.
  • BEAN may collect standard web log entries for each page served, including your IP address, page URL, and timestamp. Web logs help us to diagnose problems with our server, to administer the Website, and to otherwise provide our service to you.
  1. Data storage
  • All Website data (including your BEAN Account, personal information, photos, etc.) is stored in our database, sometimes even after you delete such information, and may be archived elsewhere.
  • Web logs and other records may be stored indefinitely.
  • Although BEAN makes a good faith effort to store the information in a secure operating environment that is not available to the public, we cannot guarantee complete security.
  1. Archiving and display of BEAN postings by search engines and other sites

Search engines and other sites not affiliated with BEAN including archive.org, google.com, and groups.yahoo.com, among others may archive or otherwise make available certain content on the Website; however, full member profiles and other personal data such as email addresses or passwords cannot be viewed by search engines.

  1. Circumstances in which BEAN may release information
  • BEAN may disclose information about its users if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal process.
  • BEAN may also disclose information about its users to law enforcement officers or others, in the good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to: 1) enforce the BEAN Volunteers and Participants Membership Agreement, Release and Waiver of Liability, Terms of Website Use (the “Membership Agreement”); 2) respond to claims that any posting or other content violates the rights of third-parties; or 3) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of BEAN, its members or the general public.

By visiting the Website and providing us with data, you acknowledge and agree that due to the international dimension of BEAN we may use the data collected in the course of our relationship for the purposes identified in this policy or in our other communications with you, including the transmission of information outside your resident jurisdiction. In addition, please understand that such data may be stored on servers located in the United States. By providing us with your data, you consent to the transfer of such data.
